Outsiders Baseball team and mentoring program

In 2008, the Outsiders Mentoring Program began by helping 20 middle school boys, primarily from the South Bronx, form a baseball team and create a structure of social and academic support, including after school tutoring and mentoring. With the help of the Program, 18 of the boys went on to high school and then 2-year and 4-year colleges. Subsequent coed cohorts of South Bronx students attended career panels, public speaking and writing workshops and other self-development programming put on by the Hearst Office of General Counsel. The Program ran until 2018 and anticipates resuming operations in the summer of 2024.
